Tripura Government Issues Notice Over Fraudulent ST Scholarship Claims

Agartala, April 1, 2025: The Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Government of Tripura, has issued a Notice to Show Cause to 34 students accused of fraudulently claiming ST Post-Matric Scholarships for the academic year 2023-24 through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

According to the official notice signed by Subhasis Das, Director of Tribal Welfare, an inquiry by administrative authorities revealed that these students submitted fake income certificates to falsely establish eligibility for the scholarship. The act has been deemed a misappropriation of public funds, document forgery, and fraud, which constitutes a criminal offense.

The notice warns the students to provide a written explanation by April 16, 2025, failing which FIRs may be lodged against them. Authorities have emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty.

Copies of the notice have been sent to key officials, including the Minister of Tribal Welfare, Secretary of Tribal Welfare, District Magistrates, Welfare Officers, and Heads of Institutions.

The government’s move signals a zero-tolerance policy against fraudulent activities in scholarship programs. It also raises concerns about verification mechanisms in place for such financial aid schemes.
