Agartala, 15 October: "Saidra," a Kokborok short film, has been selected for the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival 2024. It will be screened on October 22nd at Don Bosco School, Agartala, Tripura, and globally on October 17th and 18th in more than 136 countries, especially in New York, USA. Additionally, it will be screened at various Don Bosco institutions across India.

In an interview with Borok Now, the director and screenplay writer of "Saidra," Mr. Abel Debbarma, said, "I made a film called Saidra with my friends Mr. Jitan Reang and Amal Datta. We created this movie together as a team of three. We received assistance from Don Bosco School in making this film. The cinematographer is Mr. Alok Banik, and the editor is Mr. Angsumay Debbarma. I would like to express my gratitude, especially to Father Joseph and Madam Ms. Mina, as well as everyone at the Don Bosco Peace Center."

The motive behind making this film was to raise awareness about the importance of clean rivers. As you know, the story of the film is similar to my own. In Agartala, there's a large river called 'Howrah,' or 'Saidra' in Kokborok. Saidra is a sacred place for our people. While I don't know the river's origin, it's likely connected to the Barmura (Hatai Kotor) mountain.

I used to play there with my friends as a child, and back then, the river was very clean. However, whenever I travel by bus along the river now, I see that it has become polluted. I'm not saying that the government isn't taking enough initiative to maintain cleanliness. They are trying, but the cleanness we desire for the river is still missing.

Not only Saidra in Agartala but many other rivers are also polluted. That's why we thought about what we, as youths, can do to contribute to river cleanliness. This led to the idea of making the 'Saidra' film. Through this film, we aim to promote awareness among our youth about the importance of clean rivers and encourage them to take action to preserve them.
