TSB Condemns Violence Against Indigenous Communities in Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh

Agartala, 21st September 2024 : The Tripura Swrwngnai Buthu (TSB), a socio-cultural student organization representing the Tripura community, has strongly condemned the recent outbreak of violence in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh. In an official statement, TSB expressed deep concern over the attacks targeting indigenous communities, which have resulted in loss of life, destruction of homes, and the displacement of many families.

The Chittagong Hill Tracts, home to various indigenous groups, have been the site of escalating violence in recent weeks. TSB leaders voiced their outrage at the brutal acts that have threatened the region's peace and called for immediate intervention. "The attacks on indigenous peoples, the destruction of their homes, and the displacement of families are not only condemnable but also a violation of their fundamental rights," .

The student organization urged the government of Bangladesh to take swift and decisive action to protect the safety and security of the indigenous populations in CHT. "It is crucial that those responsible for these heinous acts be brought to justice and held accountable under the law," the statement continued. TSB also called for dialogue between the authorities and the indigenous communities to address the root causes of the conflict, particularly land rights and cultural autonomy.

In addition to addressing the Bangladeshi government, TSB made a global appeal, urging international organizations and human rights bodies to monitor the situation closely and offer support. "We appeal to international organizations and the global community to lend their support in protecting the rights and well-being of the indigenous populations in the Chittagong Hill Tracts," said the statement.
