Imphal: In Manipur, a video has surfaced of two women being stripped naked by attackers belonging to the opposite community. With this video widely circulated on social media, there is fear of conflict again in the state.
The video was shot on May 4 after riots broke out in the state. ITLF, a Kuki tribal organization, said that the women were gang-raped in a field and then stripped. Accused. They said the attackers were Meithis and the women victims were Kuki-So sect members.
The ITLF said that in the video, the assailants could be seen harassing the women despite their cries for help. Leaders say Police are investigating the incident. Central and state governments, the National Commission for Women and the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes have demanded legal action against the attackers.
Manipur Police informed that efforts are being made to nab the accused in the incident. The police informed that a case has been registered under the headings of kidnapping, gang-rape and murder.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi said that the news of torture is heartbreaking from Manipur. She added that women and children are the biggest victims of insurgency. Tension has been raging in Manipur since May 3. More than 160 people were killed in the violence.
