Silchar: Rajan Das of Karimganj district in Assam has taken it upon himself to uplift North-East India so that the region finds ample space in the NCERT books.

The 22-year-old National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has embarked on a journey to introduce a chapter in its books, especially for ninth- and tenth-grade students, to attract the attention of authorities. Students can learn about the region.

The purpose of this walking tour is also to highlight the culture and traditions of the North East.

Rajan Das, a resident of Patharkandi in Karimganj, started his journey on May 22 from Tripura Sundari Mandir (popularly known as Matabari) in Udaipur, Tripura and will visit Mizoram, Kamakhya in Guwahati and Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

Talking to Media Website Eastmojo, Das, a student at the National Institute of Technology Silchar, said he started his journey on May 22 from the Tripura Sundari Mandir in Udaipur, about 305 km from Silchar, and walked every 12-13 hours. Since then, he said, he is hopeful of completing the tour in the next two to two and a half months.

Speaking about his mission, the 22-year-old said that the people of the Indian subcontinent do not know much about the rich history and culture of the Northeast and it is important to explore the region, which is a part of India, through knowledge. He said the people of the country should know about its beautiful landscapes, traditions, culture and everything related to it.

Das said the introduction of a northeast chapter in the NCERT book, especially for ninth and tenth graders, would help students from different parts of the country learn about the region, which would also help in its progress and development in the future. He hopes that his efforts will draw the attention of the NCERT authorities and they will take appropriate steps to meet them.
